Why is it so hard to change?
Simply put, all habits and behaviours - whether they are good or bad for us - are just well practised. But often problems are well ingrained over a long period of time before you’ve realised that you no longer want to put up with it anymore.
When you learn to do something new, your brain creates a neural pathway for that action or thought, which gets stronger and reacts much faster the more you do it. Once it’s a well practised action it becomes an unconscious one.
It’s a bit like building up your bicep muscle. If you keep exercising that muscle in your arm eventually that arm is going to get very strong.
The good news is that when you know how the unconscious mind works and how to talk to it, you can change the unconscious action or thought to a much better one.
With NLP and Hypnotherapy we can identify what is driving the habit, fear or behaviour and the way that the person is doing it unconsciously so that we can guide the client to find a better strategy and get the positive outcome that they want.
If it’s that simple why should I see a Mind Coach? Can’t I just change my mind?
Yes, you can change your mind! In fact, you do it all the time. But for those habits or behaviours that you have been stuck with for a long time you might find it takes a lot of attempts and possibly as much time as you’ve had the problem to undo it. Do you have that much time, energy and focus to apply to the problem?
With the techniques explained below you can learn how to make the changes much faster and even apply them to other areas in your life that you’d like to tweak or change. If you think it’s time to kick that habit, thought or behaviour to the curb so that you can focus on more important things, then it’s time to book an appointment.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Professional Hypnotherapy practices are very different to Stage Hypnosis, where for our entertainment, people are clucking like a chicken or eating a raw onion as if it’s a juicy apple.
While this is fun to watch, rest assured that a Clinical Hypnotherapist only employs techniques that helps their client achieve their goal. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and the client is always conscious, aware and in control.
Hypnosis is the act of guiding someone into the trance state which is a deep state of relaxation where the mind is hyper-focused, and better able to come up with solutions.
It’s a state that we all naturally go in and out of regularly. Have you ever been entranced in a movie or book that is full of suspense and you find that your heart is racing or you might find yourself literally sitting on the edge of your seat? Or maybe it’s an emotional drama and the tears are flowing? You know it’s not real but your body and mind is reacting as if it is. This is a trance state. You’re focused on the story and are no longer concerned with whatever is happening around you while you’re watching the screen or reading the book.
The only difference between the trance states that you go in and out of every day and guided hypnosis is that the Hypnotherapist induces the trance state to achieve the positive change that their client wants such as healing, discovery or stress relief.
What if I can’t be Hypnotised?
As all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, the client has total control in how they experience the session. There are many techniques that can be employed to guide the client to their desired outcome either in or out of hypnosis.
What is NLP?
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Neuro refers to your neurology, Linguistic refers to language and Programming refers to how that neural language functions. In other words, it is the language of your own mind.
NLP was developed using an observational study based on the various successful behaviours of various people. These behaviours became the foundation of the NLP techniques that are used today all over the world by people who want improve their performance or to change habits, behaviours and thought patterns that no longer serve them in their personal and professional lives.
What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Technique is commonly known as EFT or ‘Tapping’. It is a simple and effective way of interrupting the patterns that keep the unhelpful habits, thoughts and behaviours stuck. EFT is a great tool to use, along with NLP and Hypnosis to begin change.
